    Preparation Strategy

    1

Pick a problem you've personally lived

Judges consistently advance pitches with authentic founder-problem fit. Generic 'app for X' ideas rarely advance past regionals.

    2

Build a working MVP, even if simple

A landing page, beta users, or Etsy shop with revenue dramatically outperforms slide-only pitches at the national stage.

    3

    Master the financials

NFTE judges weight unit economics, customer acquisition cost, and break-even analysis heavily. Numbers must be defensible.

    Common Pitfalls

    • Pitching ideas with no validation or customer conversations.
    • Overestimating market size with hand-wavy assumptions.
    • Weak slide design — visual presentation matters at national rounds.
